SAN ANTONIO-HER TRADE,
The Sister Republic of Mexico, has an immense territory, the northern
part of which must ultimately depend upon San Antonio for the manu-
facture of and supply of all her raw materials.
San Antonio herself, is the natural location for the manufacture of
all articles produced in the west—principally Cotton and Wool Factories,
Meat Canneries, Tanneries and all articles of leather make.
Manufacturies for all articles immediately necessary to home purposes
are indulged in to a great degree.
The Wholesale and Retail Trade of the city is equal to that of any
other in proportion to population, in the country, exceeding $35,000,000
yearly.
The Banking Institutions are many, and conducted on safe, though
as linient principles as any people can wish. Their management and
credit are renowned and world-wide.
As a place of Residence, the city has innumerable attractions, princi-
pally as a health resort, where climate influences do more than all the
medicines known to science, for confirmed invalids.
The Schools, both public and private, are equal to all the necessities of
education, the management being of superior intelligence, as attested by
thousands of parents whose children are reaping the benefits.
The Walks, the Drives, the Parks, the Natural Scenery, and the his-
torical relics, combine to make life enjoyable; and withal

to everyone who will come and live with us and share an enriching par-
ticipation in the upbuilding of this south-western metropolis.
But space will not allow us to dwell upon the beauties of the city, nor
its manifold advantages as a place for business, prosperity and domestic
happiness. In order to finish our task properly, however, we desire to in-
troduce the reader to our representative business men, that a better knowl-
edge of their thrifts, go-ahead enterprise, integrity and sterling business
qualities may be disseminated abroad. And in doing so we feel that our
labor will meet with its just reward, in the future benefits that will accrue
to the state at large and the city of San Antonio especially, through the
spirit of progressiveness that has shaped the internal affairs of San An-
tonio in the past, fixing it upon a substantial, time-enduring basis, and as-
suring it a future magnificence that will do honor to its worthy citizens
who are diligently laboring in man's highest callings—commerce, trade
and manufactures.
