So quickly do these dozens of stands spring to light and life, that it is
almost incredible. In the morning the dishes are the same with an ad-
dition of hot rolls, beef-steak, and a variety of other beverages. Indeed
one must see to appreciate the novelty in the sight, which rids it of all ap-
pearance of barbarity. About 8 o'clock in the morning, everything dis-
appears as if by magic, and is supplanted with the usual wagon traffic.
It is true some people have condemned a practice like this, but it must
have been because they knew of no other subjects to speak upon, and
wished only to be an exception with his opinions.
There are many halls and places of entertainment, of which we can
only make short mention ; for which the societies, lodges, etc., it would
